Dr. Frank Kamenetskii

Dr. Frank-Kamenetskii’s research is focused on theoretical and experimental studies of various DNA structures and their relations to DNA functioning in the cell. He was a part of the discovery triplex H-DNA and his current interests include Peptide Nucleic Acids (PNA) for sequence-specific recognition of duplex DNA.

This event features a panel of graduate students and experts in scientific fields who come together to answer common and individual questions. This event is hosted by NUSAACs and serves as an excellent opportunity to hear career advice from people in STEM fields. There will be dinner and Modern pastries, and dress is business casual.

Apfeld lab: Northeastern University

Assistant Professor Javier Apfeld will be speaking about his work on the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans and the biology of aging, including the role of tissue-specific oxidation.

Mair Lab: Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health.

Kris Burkewitz will be speaking on behalf of the Mair Lab. ​The Mair lab’s research studies the basic biology of the aging process, driven by the central question: Why are we more likely to get chronic diseases when we are old than when we are young? What goes wrong in cells and tissues to increase overall risk, and is this decline inevitable or can we reverse it to bring healthy years to the elderly?

Jenny Goldberg will be speaking on behalf of OpenBiome, a nonprofit research company that focuses on safe access to fecal transplants and research in the human microbiome.

Goldberg is a Northeastern alumnus, with Bachelor's degrees in both Nursing and Biology.
